1 November 2010 - Two become one for Green Marine
The local composite boat builder Green Marine is set to bring together its two current facilities - its head office and production factory based in Lymington and its facilities in Spitfire Quay, Southampton and move to new premises in Hythe Marine Business Park in Southampton. The move to the new site, which will enable the company to consolidate its production facilities as well as plan for future growth, is expected to take place from December 2010 February 2011.
Green Marine, part of the Vitters Shipyard group, is a well known builder of top quality yachts and has been specialising in custom racing yachts and high performance cruising yachts for over 28 years. It is one of the largest employers in the region, with 80 people working across the two existing Green Marine sites.
The companys new 60,000 square feet premises at Hythe Marine Business Park will be its Head Quarters, where visiting Green Marine clients and suppliers can view work in-build as well as its state-of-the-art production facilities. By expanding into the new site, Green Marines efficiency and quality of its production will be able to improve, and will contribute to it remaining internationally competitive. With deep water access, Green Marine will be able to provide berthing for its in-build and completed boat projects, including super yachts.
The South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), the Government-funded agency responsible for the sustainable economic development of the South East of England, has supported Green Marine with the planned move to Hythe Marine Park. With Green Marine moving to the park, the company will help to gain profile for the site, which is fast developing into a world-class centre of marine excellence.
Marcel Müller, Managing Director of Green Marine, said: The new production facility in Hythe will increase our production capacity and enable us to secure additional new-build and refit contracts, thereby facilitating the future growth of the company. The move is in line with our ambitious growth strategy and, with a number of exciting new projects already in the pipeline, we are looking ahead to a successful 2011.
By moving to Hythe Marine Business Park Green Marine will be able to retain its locally-based workforce. Müller continued: It was hugely important to us that we chose a site which was going to be accessible for all our staff and are extremely pleased that we will be retaining our entire existing local workforce, many of whom have worked at Green Marine for more than a decade.
