19 June 2011 - Container is Maestro of Marseille on the Audi MedCup TP52 Circuit

Udo Schuetz’s Container built by Green Marine is victorious in the Marseille 52 Series Trophy.

Container (GER), debutants on the Audi MedCup Circuit, followed up their second place in Cascais last month, with a win in Marseille.

TP52 racing is yet again extremely competitive this year. 6 new boats were built, 2 of them, Ran and Container were built at Green Marine. Team Container decided very late to compete in the Audi Med Cup 2011 and it was a challenging programme for the yard and for the team to get the boat in the water in time for the Cascais Regatta.

After a very consistent performance in Casais during their first regatta, Container went on in Marseille to beat the world champions Quantum Racing (USA) in five races out of 8. They also achieved their first ever win in the class and this was a vital victory over the 35 mile high points coastal race.

See below content from the Audi Med Cup interview with Marcus Wieser, Container Skipper – 16th June 2011.

Markus Wieser - “For us we only ordered the boat at the beginning of January, we never thought we could make the first Audi MedCup event in Cascais, our plan was to build the boat, get it ready and start sailing in Valencia, to get ready here for Marseille. Everything went a bit quicker, we employed more boat builders and Green Marine did a really good job and so the boat arrived in Cascais just in time, so there we said let us try to sail the boat, to not break the boat, but somehow it worked out really well.”

Markus Wieser - “We got a nice sailing boat for sure, Green Marine have given us a nice boat and the owner Udo Schuetz gave me a really free hand to choose the crew I wanted to sail with, and so most of the guys on the boat sailed with us on the STP 65, Container, and so we know them really well and we just got Hamish Pepper (NZL) on board as tactician who is a great sailor. We have a nice team and a good team...We sailed only four days in Cascais, and we did have issues there with the boat setup, so we took it back to Valencia and made a few changes, everybody has made some changes from Cascais.”
